Small puzzles, one new board a day.
Octant is a set of short daily puzzles in a single app. Everyone gets the same board on the same day. Each board has a target that has been proven by exhaustive search rather than guessed at, so the number you are chasing is real. If you take a hint, your result says so.
It takes a few minutes. Then it is done until tomorrow.
It works with the network off
Every board is generated on your device from the day's number. Nothing is downloaded to play, the fonts are bundled inside the app, and there is no sign-in step to get past. Put the phone in aeroplane mode and the whole app still works.
That is not a feature we bolted on. It is a consequence of how the app is built: it makes no network requests at all.
The puzzles
- Meander — Three mirrors. One walker.
- Crease — Fold every dot into one.
- Basin — Drop three stones. Keep the rain.
- Jam — Three cones. Make the jam.
- Scree — One grain from collapse.
- Wedge — Cut until every coin stands alone.
- Overprint — Later ink wins.
- Tell — Say it in fewer letters. not in the app yet — it needs a server, and it is the only puzzle that would use one
What it does not do
- No account, no sign-in, no user name. Nothing in the app identifies you.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising identifier. You will never see iOS's tracking permission prompt, because there is nothing to ask about.
- No cookies, no third-party scripts, no fonts fetched from anyone else's server.
- Your results, streak, hints and half-finished boards are stored on your device, under
the key prefix
hub.v1.. They never leave it. We never see them. Deleting the app deletes them. - Nothing sold is random. No loot boxes, no mystery packs, no paid rerolls, no paid rank, no streak repairs, no energy timers.
Hints are honest
You get one free hint a day. When the app reaches the stores you will be able to buy more, and there will be a subscription for people who want the archive of past days. None of it is required — the daily boards are free, practice boards are unlimited, and you can attempt any board as many times as you like.
Whatever you use, any result that took a hint is marked with 💡 and the number of hints, both in the app and in the text you copy to share. That mark is the point of the design, not a penalty.
